HUNDREDS OF STUDENTS EXPECTED FOR BUILDING TRADES CAREER EXPO IN ROCKFORD

National Apprenticeship data highlights significant earning potential as interest surges in skilled trades

Rockford, IL – Project First Rate proudly announces the 2025 Building Trades Career Expo, set to take place February 18-20 at the Plumbers & Pipefitters Training Center in Rockford. This annual event offers hundreds of students and educators from across the region a unique opportunity to explore more than a dozen skilled trades and their respective apprenticeship programs.

“Apprenticeship programs in the building and construction trades offer a pathway to a secure middle class life without the burden of student debt,” said Paul Nolley, executive director of Project First Rate. “The Expo allows attendees to ask questions, try out tools and technologies, and experience firsthand what these fulfilling alternatives to college can offer. The most common reaction is surprise at the breadth and depth of opportunities available.”

National Apprenticeship Data Underscores Value of Skilled Trades
This year’s Expo coincides with compelling national data highlighting the strong potential of registered apprenticeships. According to the U.S. Department of Labor, apprentices who complete their programs earn an average of $300,000 more over their career than those who don’t and often step into roles with clear career advancement opportunities. Apprenticeships offer a combination of hands-on training, classroom learning, and a paycheck from day one, making them an attractive option for individuals seeking a debt-free path to a sustainable career with exceptional wages and benefits.

Hands-on Exploration and Expert Insights
The 2025 Building Trades Career Expo will showcase over a dozen trades, including carpentry, pipefitting, electrical, and more. Participating students will engage in hands-on demonstrations and other activities led by industry professionals. Each trade will share information about their joint labor management apprenticeship programs – educational partnerships between organized labor and contractors that form one of the nation’s largest private post-secondary educational systems.
